What is private label dropshipping?
Private label dropshipping means selling a product made by a factory, but sold under your own brand rather than the factory's. Your logo goes on the packaging, and later on the product itself, while orders still ship one at a time to your customers. You own the brand your customer sees, without buying a container of stock to get started.
It sits between plain dropshipping, where the product arrives in a generic bag, and a full bulk order, where you pay for a production run up front. We start clients with branded packaging on single orders and move them to bulk only when the sales are there.
Private label or white label?
White label means putting your name on a product that already exists and that other sellers can also buy. Private label means the product is made to your own specification, so the colour, material, size or packaging is yours. White label is faster and cheaper to start. Private label costs more and takes longer, and it is much harder for a competitor to copy.
Why scale with the supplier you already use
The usual path is messy. A seller tests products with one supplier, finds a winner, then goes looking for a factory on a sourcing marketplace, starts from zero on trust and quality, and discovers the bulk units are not quite the same product they were dropshipping.
We already know the product, because we have been shipping it for you one order at a time. We know which factory makes it, what fails inspection, and what your customers complain about. That is a far better starting point for a production run than a new supplier and a fresh set of assumptions.
What we can customise
Not every option suits every product. When we quote, we tell you which of these are realistic for your specific item and what each one adds per unit.
Logo on the product
Printed, embossed, woven or moulded onto the product itself, depending on what the product is made of.
Branded mailers & boxes
Your logo and colors printed on the poly mailer or shipping box the customer actually receives.
Insert & thank-you cards
A printed card in every parcel with care instructions, a discount code for the next order, or a review request.
Hang tags & labels
Branded swing tags, sewn-in labels and barcode labels, ready for retail or for your own stock system.
Printed retail boxes
Full color printed boxes for products that need shelf presence or a premium unboxing.
Eco-friendly packaging
Recyclable, biodegradable and compostable options, from kraft cartons and paper void fill to home-compostable mailers, for stores whose customers care about plastic-free packaging.
Color, scent & material
Change the colorway, the material or the scent so your version is not identical to every other store selling it.
From testing a product to owning it
You do not have to jump straight to a production run. Most of our clients walk up this ladder one rung at a time.
- 01
Test it as a dropship product
No minimum, one order at a time. Find out whether the product actually sells before you put money into inventory. Most products fail this stage, and that is exactly the point.
- 02
Add light branding
Branded mailers, insert cards and hang tags. Small print runs mean you can look like a brand long before you can afford a full production run.
- 03
Move to a bulk run
Once a product sells consistently, we arrange production in volume with the factory. Your unit cost drops, your margin improves, and stock sits in our warehouse ready to go out the same day.
- 04
Private label it properly
Your logo on the product, your own packaging, and where it makes sense a color, material or scent that is yours alone. Now you own the product rather than reselling someone else’s.
How little you can order and still look like a brand
Branding is the part sellers assume they cannot afford yet, and it is usually the cheapest part. Here is what actually runs small.
- Dropshipping has no minimum. One order is fine, and that never changes.
- Branded mailers, insert cards and hang tags run small. You do not need thousands of units to look like a brand.
- Printed retail boxes can run small too, though the cost per box drops significantly as the quantity goes up.
- Your logo on the product itself is the step that needs volume. Printing, embossing or moulding is set up at the factory, so it is priced per run rather than per unit.
We will always give you the real number. If the branding you want needs a bigger run than you are comfortable with, we say so and suggest what to change instead. Product minimums and production runs are covered on the China sourcing agent page.
Private label dropshipping questions
Straight answers on minimums, customisation and cost.
What is private label dropshipping?
Private label dropshipping means selling products made by a factory under your own brand. Your logo goes on the packaging from the first order, and later on the product itself, while orders still ship one at a time to your customers. You build a brand without paying for a full production run up front.
What is the difference between private label and white label?
White label means putting your name on a product that already exists and that other sellers can also buy. Private label means the product is made to your own specification, so the colour, material, size or packaging is yours alone. White label is faster to start. Private label is harder for a competitor to copy.
What is the minimum order for private label?
It depends on the product and how much you want changed. Custom packaging such as printed mailers, insert cards and hang tags can be produced in small runs. Custom moulds or heavily modified products need a larger run. We tell you the real minimum for your specific product when we quote it.
What can you customise?
Your logo printed or embossed on the product, branded poly mailers and boxes, insert and thank-you cards, hang tags and labels, full printed retail boxes, and custom color, scent or material variations. Most pet products can be changed in at least one of these ways.
How much does branded packaging cost?
Branding costs are quoted per project and are usually small relative to the product cost, particularly for mailers, insert cards and hang tags. Printed retail boxes cost more because they are printed and die-cut. We quote the packaging separately so you can see exactly what the branding adds per unit.
Do I have to pay for storage once the bulk order arrives?
No. Warehousing is free with no time limit and no monthly fee. Your bulk stock sits on our shelves and is picked, packed and shipped as orders come in.
How long does a private label production run take?
Production time depends on the product, the quantity and how much customisation is involved. We give you a realistic production window in the quote rather than an optimistic one, and we tell you as soon as anything slips.
